The Margaret River wine region, situated in the southwestern corner of Western Australia, is celebrated for its exceptional wine production. Covering approximately 5,840 hectares under vine, the region is home to over 200 wineries, predominantly boutique operations. Despite producing just 2% of Australia's total wine output, Margaret River commands over 20% of the country's premium wine market, underscoring its reputation for quality. The region's climate is heavily influenced by its proximity to the Indian and Southern Oceans, resulting in a maritime climate with mild temperatures and ideal humidity levels for viticulture. This environment is particularly conducive to varieties like Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay, which thrive in the region's gravelly loam soils.
