Yakima Valley, Washington

The Yakima Valley, Washington's oldest American Viticultural Area (AVA), established in 1983, is a cornerstone of the state's wine industry. Spanning approximately 70 miles, it encompasses over 17,000 acres of vineyards, accounting for more than a quarter of Washington's total vineyard acreage. The valley's unique terroir, characterized by well-drained volcanic soils and a climate of hot days and cool nights, provides ideal conditions for cultivating a diverse range of grape varietals, including Chardonnay, Riesling, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah. Beyond viticulture, Yakima Valley is renowned for its rich agricultural heritage, producing a variety of fruits such as apples, cherries, and pears. This blend of agricultural abundance and pioneering spirit has cemented Yakima Valley's status as a premier wine-producing region, attracting visitors worldwide to its numerous wineries and tasting rooms.
