Antoine Coutier

Antoine Coutier emphasizes a winemaking approach that balances the traditional richness of Ambonnay fruit with a racy and pure style. Approximately two-thirds of the wines undergo malolactic fermentation to achieve this harmony. Barrel fermentation and aging are reserved for specific cuvées, such as the "Cuvée Henri III" and the single-vineyard "La Pierre Aux Larrons." The estate produces around 60,000 bottles annually, with blends often featuring a higher proportion of Chardonnay than typical for the area. For instance, the non-vintage Brut Tradition consists of 75% Pinot Noir and 25% Chardonnay.

Montagne de Reims-Champagne, France

Ambonnay, a prestigious Grand Cru village in the Montagne de Reims subregion of Champagne, France, is renowned for its exceptional Pinot Noir, which brings richness, depth, and structure to Champagne. Situated south of Reims and east of Épernay, the village benefits from a cool continental climate, south and southeast-facing slopes, and chalk-limestone soils, which enhance the wines' freshness and minerality. While Pinot Noir dominates, R.H. Coutier uniquely cultivates Chardonnay, adding elegance and balance to their wines. Ambonnay's grapes are highly sought after by prestigious houses like Krug and Bollinger, yet grower-producers like R.H. Coutier offer distinct, terroir-driven Champagnes that capture the village's signature power and finesse.
