Loretta, John & Martin Bargetto

Bargetto Winery, established in 1918 in Soquel, California, is the oldest continuously operating winery in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Founded by Italian immigrant brothers Phillip and John Bargetto, their winemaking heritage dates back 300 years to Piedmont, Italy. Surviving Prohibition, the family expanded operations post-1933, pioneering modern techniques and introducing varietals like Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The third generation, led by John, Martin and Loretta Bargetto, oversees operations, including the Regan Estate Vineyard, known for cool-climate varietals. A Certified Sustainable winery, Bargetto reflects a legacy of quality, innovation, and dedication to sustainable practices in winemaking.

Santa Cruz Mountains

The Santa Cruz Mountains AVA, established in 1981, spans the coastal mountains between San Francisco and Monterey Bay, covering parts of Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, and San Mateo counties. Known for its rugged terrain and diverse microclimates, the region excels in producing Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Cabernet Sauvignon. Coastal vineyards benefit from cool fog and ocean breezes, while inland areas provide warmer conditions. The soils, including decomposed granite and limestone, contribute to distinctive terroir-driven wines. With small-scale, artisanal production and steep hillside vineyards, the AVA is celebrated for its elegant, high-quality wines that showcase both coastal and mountain influences.
