Mendocino County

Nestled in Northern California, Mendocino County is renowned for its diverse terroir and commitment to sustainable viticulture. With its dramatic coastline, rolling hills, and majestic redwoods, the region offers a picturesque backdrop for winemaking. Mendocino’s vineyards span inland valleys and coastal ridges, benefiting from the Pacific Ocean’s cooling influence, which ensures vibrant acidity and balanced ripening in the grapes. The region’s soils, ranging from fertile alluvium to rocky volcanic compositions, provide ideal conditions for diverse varietals.

Known for its cool-climate Syrah, Pinot Noir, and Chardonnay, Mendocino County produces wines celebrated for their purity and sense of place. Syrah from areas like Alder Springs Vineyard exhibits depth and complexity, with dark fruit flavors, spice, and earthy nuances. The region experiences a Mediterranean climate with warm days and cool nights, fostering slow ripening and concentrated flavors. A curious fact about Mendocino is its leadership in organic and biodynamic farming, with one of the highest concentrations of certified organic vineyards in the United States.
