OLG Wines
OLG Wines is an esteemed winery nestled in the Sta. Rita Hills AVA of California. The winery's name, Our Lady of Guadalupe (OLG), reflects Phinney's deep respect for Mexican culture and the vineyard workers who are integral to the wine industry. In 2015, Phinney acquired an abandoned row crop farm on the western edge of the Sta. Rita Hills, captivated by its unique terroir characterized by sandy, silica-rich, diatomaceous earth soils and a cool, windy climate ideal for cultivating Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Over the next few years, the OLG team revitalized the land, enhancing soil health with compost, gypsum, and nitrogen-fixing cover crops. By 2018, they planted nine distinct clones of Pinot Noir across 127 acres and six acres of Old Wente Chardonnay, each strategically chosen to match the site's microclimates and soil compositions. The vineyard's design caters to winemaking precision, with block sizes tailored to specific fermenter dimensions, embodying Phinney's meticulous attention to detail. OLG Wines is committed to sustainability, holding a Sustainability-in-Practice (SIP) certification, and employs practices like soil moisture probes, sheep grazing for weed control, and integrated pest management to minimize environmental impact. The inaugural vintage was released in 2021, and since then, OLG Wines has continued to craft exceptional single-vineyard wines that express the unique terroir of their estate.
