Fattoria Kappa

Fattoria Kappa is a distinguished winery located in the Maremma region of Tuscany, Italy. Established in 2004 by two Austrian friends, Stephan Klasmann and Andrea di Maio, the winery began with the lease of small vineyards near Castellina Marittima, just four kilometers from the Tyrrhenian Sea. Their shared vision was to craft wines that authentically express the unique terroir of the region. Over time, Fattoria Kappa expanded to encompass 14 hectares of estate-owned vineyards, all cultivated with a steadfast commitment to natural and sustainable practices. The vineyards are meticulously maintained by hand, utilizing horses instead of tractors to preserve soil health and biodiversity. The winery is in the process of obtaining organic certification, reflecting its dedication to environmentally responsible viticulture. The diverse soils, rich in minerals, fossils, and marine elements, coupled with the vineyard's proximity to the sea and an elevation of approximately 400 meters, contribute to the distinctive character of their wines. Fattoria Kappa specializes in producing terroir-driven wines from both indigenous and international grape varieties, including Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Sangiovese, and Petit Verdot. The winemaking process emphasizes minimal intervention, with spontaneous fermentation using native yeasts, no temperature control, and aging in a combination of used tonneaux and steel tanks. The wines are bottled without fining or filtration, resulting in authentic expressions of the Maremma terroir. With an annual production of approximately 40,000 bottles, Fattoria Kappa has garnered recognition for its high-quality wines, including accolades from esteemed wine publications. ā
