Akatombo is a distinguished winery located in the Howell Mountain appellation of Napa Valley, California. The name "Akatombo," meaning "Red Dragonfly" in Japanese, reflects the winery's commitment to crafting wines that embody elegance and a sense of place. Specializing in limited-production Cabernet Sauvignon, Akatombo sources grapes from biodynamic vineyards situated at elevations around 1,500 feet. The volcanic Aiken soil and unique microclimate of Howell Mountain contribute to the distinctive characteristics of their wines. The 2018 Akatombo Cabernet Sauvignon, for example, offers a bold palate with flavors of black currant, Bing cherry, wild sage, and ripe plum, complemented by hints of mountain forest, cedar, and rich vanilla from French oak aging. This wine has garnered critical acclaim, receiving 95 points from both The SOMM Journal and Anthony Dias Blue. With a production of only 560 cases, Akatombo emphasizes quality and terroir-driven expressions in every bottle.
