Jasnières is a small yet historic AOC in the Loir Valley, located in the Sarthe department of northern France. As one of the country's northernmost wine regions, it has a cool continental climate, ideal for Chenin Blanc, the only permitted grape variety. The region's soils—composed of clay, limestone, sand, and flint (silex)—impart a distinct minerality to the wines, which are renowned for their vibrant acidity, flinty character, and exceptional aging potential. Despite its modest size, Jasnières has gained a reputation for producing some of France’s finest dry and off-dry Chenin Blancs, often compared to those of Vouvray and Savennières but with a unique precision and freshness due to its cooler climate.
