Lisboa, Portugal

The Lisboa wine region, formerly known as Estremadura, stretches along Portugal's Atlantic coast, encompassing diverse terrains and microclimates. Renowned for its rich winemaking heritage, Lisboa is Portugal's largest producer of wine by volume. The region is subdivided into nine Denominação de Origem Controlada (DOC) areas, including Alenquer, Bucelas, Colares, and Óbidos, each offering unique wine styles. Alenquer, where Quinta do Pinto is located, is characterized by its valley setting, which provides natural protection from Atlantic winds, allowing grapes to ripen fully and develop robust flavors. The region's climate is influenced by the Atlantic Ocean, leading to cooler temperatures and higher humidity, which contribute to the distinctive freshness and acidity found in Lisboa wines. The principal grape varieties include Arinto, Fernão Pires, and Touriga Nacional, among others. In recent years, Lisboa has gained international recognition for producing high-quality wines that balance tradition with modern winemaking techniques.
