Jody Elsom

Founder and winemaker of Elsom Cellars, has been a trailblazer in Seattle's urban winery scene since 2006. Her journey into winemaking was driven by a passion for exploring the complexities of Washington's vineyards and a desire to bring that experience into the city. Jody's approach emphasizes sourcing high-quality grapes from esteemed vineyards east of the Cascades, allowing her to craft wines that authentically represent the region's terroir. She has developed a particular affinity for Malbec, continually uncovering its diverse expressions and nuances. Under her guidance, Elsom Cellars has become synonymous with artisanal winemaking, community involvement, and a commitment to showcasing the best of Washington's wine potential. ​

The Yakima Valley, Washington's oldest American Viticultural Area (AVA), established in 1983, is a cornerstone of the state's wine industry. Spanning approximately 70 miles, it encompasses over 17,000 acres of vineyards, accounting for more than a quarter of Washington's total vineyard acreage. The valley's unique terroir, characterized by well-drained volcanic soils and a climate of hot days and cool nights, provides ideal conditions for cultivating a diverse range of grape varietals, including Chardonnay, Riesling, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah.
